Naftali Torok is a violinist with a charismatic stage presence and highly esteemed for her expressivity and fiery improvisations. She reaches the public right in the heart with her emotional violin! Born in The Netherlands, she was raised with classical music. During her study musicology at the University and the Conservatory for Classsical Violin, her interest in traditional folk music and world music blossomed into a professional level. Naftali specialized in the music of Eastern Europe, Greek music & Turkish classical music as well as Jewish and Portuguese music. In RL she is a much sought-after teacher, performer and recording-artist among world music and mainstream pop acts in The Netherlands and has toured extensively throughout Europe. In RL Naftali is playing in different national and international ensembles such as BALQANA and DUTCH FOLK COLLECTIVE. In 2005 she founded her own INTERNATIONAL KLEZMER TRIO, with who she produced 2 CD’s, a 3rd is expected to be released in 2011.
In 2007 Naf started playing live virtual concerts in SL (SecondLife) wich inspires her to find new musical bridges and establish international musical connections. More recently Naf started new Xover-projects: recording compositions, based on worldmusic and improvisations in a mix of newage , ambient and electro-acoustical grooves. Direct results are contributions to 2 new CD’s:
“URBAN DESERTS” , a musical project of Nnoiz Papp (Germany) . This CD was completely realized with avatar-musicians from secondlife . (CD release 27/04/10) And
“THANK YOU”, a Swiss/Dutch projec with meditative music based on tradfolk grooves. ( CD release expected okt/ nov 2010)
